Do sustainability practices influence financial performance? Evidence from the Nordic financial industry

Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the impact sustainability (environmental, social and governance or ESG) practices on financial performance (FP) Nordic industry. Design/methodology/approach covers a sample selection observations for total 152 firm-years 39 companies within region (Sweden, Denmark, Finland Norway) business years including 2015–2019. Data regarding ESG FP indicators were extracted from Thomson Reuters Eikon database in July 2020. This quantitative using regression generalized method moments. Findings Using static dynamic estimators, authors found both positive negative impacts practice FP. identified relationship between (return invested capital, return equity earnings per share). assets. Originality/value A key contribution accounting literature finding that there risk firms adopting practices, as they follow logic contradicts purely economic rationale. On other hand, helps not only but also regulators researchers understand good structure.
